Autumn Stylewatch

‘Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.’

-George Eliot

Indeed, it is my favourite time of year–the leaves are changing, the air is crisp and blah blah blah all the usual cliche things that are said about autumn.

And Fall Fashion!

I’ve been a bit down in the dumps lately, but then I had a ‘I’ll show you how valuable Elle Woods can be!’ moment and decided update my winter coat.

I’ve never looked very good in coats. And by ‘very good’ I mean ‘not like a giant frumpy marshmallow’–

I see other women in big long coats looking sleek and amazing and sophisticated and not cold and I think–could that me be? But inevitably, no matter what form of winter habiliment I try, it is not me. I think this is a petite person problem? Looking like a dumpy bag lady in layers?

‘Does this coat make me look fat?’

For the past year I’ve been layering my hoodie from CATS the musical (it has cat ears on the hood because I am a 33-year-old and this is appropriate) underneath a cat-hair-covered pea coat that looks like it’s bursting at the seams and has coffee stains on the cuffs.

With dreams of Burberry supermodels dancing my head and in hopes of a renewed sense of personhood, I ordered this cheap coat from H&M:

It does not look like this on me. Not at all. Not remotely. It’s like one of those Pinterest expectation vs reality fails. B walked in from work as I was trying it on and said, ‘It looks like you’re wearing a dressing gown!!!’ (he means ‘bathrobe’ but he’s British and uses funny words). No, honey, IT’S MY SEXY NEW COAT DON’T YOU LIKE IT?!

‘You don’t like my new coat?’

UGH. Looks like another winter of waddling around and being mistaken for a obese child. Ah, well…there are worse things. Such as Donald J. Trump becoming POTUS.

New garment? Fun for the whole family!

Any other tiny people feel my pain??? Hit me up with a comment!

Oh I love this Weekes Word! It’s just so quaint yet descriptive and I think it should be used all the time.

Bosky: from the Middle English ‘bosk’ (variant for bush) and meaning covered in trees or bushes, wooded. Ex: The bosky hill exhibited the most luscious colours of autumn, and the small girl in the frumpy coat stopped to marvel at the natural beauty of the season.
