WW4: Desdemona

I was feeling a bit vulnerable a few weeks ago, and I decided that might be a good moment to record a little Desdemona for you.

In this (very short!) monologue, she’s trying to make sense of Othello’s sudden horrible treatment of her…. and his unfathomable accusation that she is a ‘whore’.

Don’t worry: Edward is in his usual spot being the ever attentive audience member. But you can’t see little Jane because she’s in my lap! So here’s a pic of her being cute to tide you over.

Hopefully back with less talking and more typing next week.

  1. Oooh, I’m glad I checked in! Bonus Jane pic! I caught the episode a couple of days ago, and now I’m doubly impressed that you were able to do an entire monologue while balancing a cat on your knee. There really should be an Oscar category for that…

  2. Excuse me, I can’t type for a bit because I’m applauding too enthusiastically! Edward is watching your performance with rapt attention for good reason. (Well, plus you are his Giver of Food and he’s probably wondering if it’s snack time.) And if there’s ever a role for a person who can balance a cat on her knee while soliloquizing YOU have that part in the bag!!!

  3. Bravo, Weekes. πŸ™‚ You are such a talented and expert channeler of Shakespeare. Just, wow. I (like Edward, quite obviously in the clip) am transported by the way you translated D’s hurt bewilderment (I must remind myself of the plot of Othello next chance I get!). Thanks for sharing another great performance! Hope the classes are going swimmingly! πŸ™‚

    • Thank you so much, Shirley!! Poor Desdemona has it really rough… her needless, senseless murder is the ultimate tragedy. It’s tricky doing these scaled down versions as I’m normally a very physically expressive actor, but it’s nice to quiet the focus and listen to the text. Thank you again for stopping by!
